Playground Shade – Schools Competition 2011

To help schools entering the competition SCaRF is publishing the judging criteria and the weighting of marks given to each.  Schools should note the emphasis put upon the place of the shade scheme in the school curriculum and the active part it is envisaged that the children will play in the scheme. 

1          Does the school have its own (or LEA) Sun Safety Policy and if so, please give a brief description of that policy?
                                                                                                                                              10%of marks
 

2          The particular need for shade in that school with a brief description of the school grounds.  
                                                                                                                                   15%of marks 

3          The merits of the scheme, the quality and quantity of the shade provided.                      15%of marks 

4          How well the scheme fits into the school’s curriculum content and the part the children play  in the conception and implementation of the scheme.  
                                                                                                                                               40%of marks
 

5          The aesthetic appeal of the scheme; does it “fit in” in a pleasing manner?                       10%of marks 

6          The durability of the scheme; will it stand up to wear and tear, and last?                        10%of marks 

The judges aim to distribute prize money equally between the four authorities but the Trustees reserve the right to re-distribute any prize money to another Local Authority area where schools in any one area fail to meet the criteria or if there are insufficient entries from one or more authority. 

                It is helpful to the judges of the competition if you can include as much information as possible to help them make their decision therefore the inclusion of maps, diagrams, photographs, children’s work, costings of the project etc will be helpful.  Photocopies are acceptable.
